NINA GIRADO - THE PHILIPPINE'S SOUL SIREN
Marifil Niña Girado (or Nina) is a singer from the Philippines. She is popularly known as "Soul Siren" also known for her abilty to sing in the Whistle register. It's the songs not the singer as they say.
Biography
Born November 1, 1980, in Pasay City, Marifil Niña Girado, was raised in Quezon City with three other siblings. Growing up, Nina, much like any aspiring singer, admired Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and Gary V., Ella Mae Saison, and Regine Velasquez on the home front.

Her Road To Success
Nina stands barely over five feet but her vocal prowess can stand up to a tidal wave. As far as she can remember, Nina has always been in the solemn presence of music. Her dad, Filbert, is a member of the Bayanihan Boy's Choir and her mom, Maria Daulet, plays the piano. She was five, singing in a corner when her dad gave her special notice. Intensive vocal training was the next chapter -- belting with her body submerged in a drum of water (hence, the tidal wave) and exercising those vocal chords early in the morning.
Indeed, hard work and dedication pay off — eventually. She was a 7-week champion at the most successful singing competition in the country, Tanghalan ng Kampeon—the undisputed springboard for fresh talent. Before casting glorious light on the bleak music scene, pop and R&B find, Nina, found satisfaction soothing tired souls at the local clubs. Songs of love and loss, songs of firsts and lasts all delivered with intense passion and fiery emotion. Whatever the message, the effect is lasting, overwhelming. She can wail with the power of a crashing tidal wave or whine with the softness of a trickling rainfall. Waxing poetic describing vocal range can only mean one thing—when she sings, expect to be moved in ways you never imagined.
Her claim to fame isn't only her voice but the story behind her discovery. The demo tape she submitted to Warner Music Philippines sampled her rendition of Foolish Heart. It was at that moment when hearing the tape, Warner Music executives immediately realized her potential and signed her without even actually seeing the woman behind the voice. The rest was, as we know it, history.
Latest
Nina gotten the attention of American pop music songwriter Dianne Warren, who allowed her to interpret one of her songs, "I Don't Wanna Be Your Friend," originally interpreted by Cyndi Lauper and included it in the new compilation "Diane Warren Presents Love Songs." Nina also recently recorded a cover of the Nat King Cole classic, "The Christmas Song," for the Warner Music All-Star Christmas Collection. (INQ7)

in my honest opinion. according to what i have watch in youtube.com that kyla and nina both of them has a distinctive sound
that is unique to there style of singing.
such as
Nina can easily shift to whistle register while kyla is more consistent using her mixed register but she can vocalize her whistle register.
but for me i would prefer kyla using her chest register than nina because
in nina's case when she uses her chest register in singing high notes it feels that is like a can that is been tear into two parts while that her voice has that has been divided into many parts or in other words it is not intact unlike with kyla when she uses her chest register in singing high notes her voice became thin but sharp and intact

Rachelle Ann Go has been chosen by an international recording group to record an album for the European / World market to be released mid next year.
Executives of Brown Moose Ltd./TriSoul Inc., a leading independent UK and U.S.-based company that specializes in recording, artist management, and live concert promotion in major cities of Europe, were in town last month to forge a deal with Viva Records for collaborations for the European market.
The first project of the UK-Philippines team-up is an album to be recorded by Rachelle Ann Go, winner of the Star in a Million contest in 1999. Rachelle Ann's current hit is "Bakit?," the theme song of the telenovela "Mirada de Mujer" which airs on ABS-CBN. The cut is from her album "I Care."
Rachelle has already recorded a test cut for the company group, which will be premiered in MIDEM 2007 in Cannes, France in January, the leading music festival for the music industry. Rachelle will start recording for the new album in January 2007. Charles Williams, a noted American producer and arranger, will be heading the project and producing the album.
Mike Curtis, the Managing Director of Brown Moose, Ltd. said he and his partners are very optimistic that Rachelle Ann Go has a very good chance of making it big in Europe. "Rachelle's voice is just enchanting, and she is a very beautiful girl with a fresh and clean image. We are committed to promoting her to the mainstream market, not just to the Filipino community."
Mike had asked Charles to suggest an up and coming American talent to break and promote in the European mainstream, but instead of suggesting an American talent, Charles let him hear the recordings of Rachelle Ann, for whose album, "I Care," he had produced two tracks.
"After that," Charles said, "he was a fan." Several serious meetings followed, and soon they made their way to the Philippines to talk to Viva's chief honchos, Vic del Rosario and son, Vincent del Rosario.
"I think this break is timely and well-deserved." Vincent del Rosario said. "Aside from her God-given beautiful voice, Rachelle also works hard and is a good daughter." Vincent added. "We really believe in Rachelle, not just as a singer, but as an all-around entertainer. And she's definitely among what we would want the rest of the world to see as a model Filipina."
Del Rosario said that it will be a first for a locally-based Filipina singer to be promoted in the international mainstream. "We're confident she will go far," Del Rosario said.

i think you should post Nina's downlink link here..I've only heard Yma Sumac E2 note..that note is quite difficult to sing for female singer..that's why i want you to post her audio sample here..

Actually sabi daw ng doctor niya..masama daw sa voice niya yung pag-whistle kasi hindi niya daw ginagamit ng tama...mukha kasi siyang nahihirapan pag tumitili...unlike Lani Misalucha and Mariah..nakangiti lang kapag umaabot ng mga whistles | |

she can't do what she used to do before!!
