SARAH GERONIMO - THE MOST PROMISING ASIA'S SONGBIRD
Sarah Asher Geronimo (born July 25, 1988) is a Filipina singer, actress and model. She is the first winner of the Philippine reality show Star For A Night hosted by multi-platinum selling artist Regine Velasquez. She is the forerunner of a new breed of singing champions fresh from reality shows.
Sarah bested ten other contenders and emerged as the grand champion of the Philippine franchise of UK's Star For A Night, a year later it was renamed as Search For A Star and produced its second grand champion Rachelle Ann Go. Soonafter, several reality-based singing star searches opted for the same format.
Four months after winning, at fourteen years old, she released her debut album Popstar: A Dream Come True which spawned the hugely popular hit "Forever Is Not Enough". She continued on with hit singles like "Broken Vow", "Sa Iyo" and "If Only". The debut album was awarded an astounding quintuple (5x) platinum award, selling over 150,000 copies. Aside from singing, she has also done supporting roles for movies like "Filipinas", "Captain Barbell" and "Annie B." and has starred in her own television soap opera entitled "Sarah, The Teen Princess". She has also scored endorsement deals for Jollibee, Charmee and Talk And Text for Smart Telecommunications.
During the MTV Philippines awards presentation, Sarah sang a duet with Australian Idol Guy Sebastian. She was also awarded by MTV Philippines. She also received an award as Nickelodeon's Kids Choice for Wannabe Personality.
Sarah released her sophomore album in November 2004 entitled Sweet Sixteen. It included hits like "How Could You Say you Love Me" and "Lumingon Ka Lang" and current single "I Want To Know What Love Is". The album was awarded platinum status 3 months after . A month later she starred opposite Mark Bautista, her runner-up, in the fantasy film "Lastikman".
In 2005, Sarah sang the theme of reality show winners Hero Angeles and Sandara Park's launching movie "Can This Be Love",which was released as a maxi-single and achieved gold record status in a months time. She also became a mainstay in the fourth season of "SCQ Reload, Kilig Ako". Sarah is a talent of VIVA Entertainment Group and is part of ABS-CBN, The Kapamilya Network.
Summer 2005, Sarah together with her fellow champions reunite for a United States Tour of Pinoy Idols:Return Of The Champions which was brought to selected cities in the US for a two-month period. This will probably be their last concert as a group as they would be individually embarking on their solo success.
"Sweet Sixteen" has been awarded the double platinum award selling over 60,000 copies as of August 2005. In addition, Sarah is slated to stage her biggest major solo concert "The Other Side",yet some time in August, afterwhich she will then be shooting her launching movie under her managament VIVA Entertainment.

You are entitled with your own opinions and everyone has the opportunity to say and express his/her feelings.With this matter, it is very unfair naman kay Sarah na bigyan niyo siya ng barat na comments.Sarah possessed good quality which set her apart from the others.She is unique individual. If you're trying to say or just compare her to the others and to the extent give her stupid comments, hen it's really unfair to her.....really humiliating.Why not give her the good or the least compliment if she's not just you're type? I mean, is Sarah apparently behind with those other artists? I believe in her talent and the others too. She made everything just to elevate her life as a person, entertained us and gave honor in our country. fanatic's ryt. my brother is also a musician at di din cia madaling humanga sa isang singer especially kung female cia. when he watched sarah on ASAP (singing making love out of nothing at all), talgang humanga daw cia. and did you guys notice? khit sobrang taas o low notes ung kinkanta nya, ung mga words nya is very clear pa rin at naiintindhan talga ng listeners unlike dun sa iba n pg mataas na kinakant e kinakain n pati ung words ng song de vah.

gosh most people here are terrible. all singers have their own forte, para dun sa mga inaagiw na ang utak. hindi porke hindi mkareach ng very high notes ay bad singer na. it only means na mas appropriate sya sa ibang types of songs. gets? meaning merong ibang singer na sobrang nag-eexcel sa very low notes na unfortunately e di naman kaya ng iba. ganun lang po un. ang hirap kc sa mga tao dito e ginagawang basis ang taas ng boses. e di lang yon sa ganon noh! lahat ng singers may mga limitations din, di nila kayang gawin lahat-lahat kaya pede lang don't expect too much. as for sarah i've seen her performances a lot of times. ang swerte ng ASAP sa kanya kc kahit anung song ibigay sa kanya wala siyang reklamo kahit na hindi yun yung forte niya. she sees to it na sulit ang talent fee na binibigay sa kanya kaya kahit pagpawisan sya at mahirapan sya ok lang sa kanya as long as yun yung song na inassign sa kanya. at her very young age nakakabilib yung pagiging proffessional niya. very obvious na may breed sya. wel, di nman nakakapagtaka dahil thomasian pala sya. i failed my entrace test at UST, kya naman bilib ako sa kanya kc may substance din pala sya. for all regine fans, laitin nyo si sarah pero parang nilait nyo na rin si regine. remember product sya ng SFAN, para nyo na ring sinabi na poor ang quality ng show na yon kung lalaitin nyo lng si sarah. bago sya nanalo sa contest madami n syang contest na pinagdaanan just like other singers, ibig sabihin lang nun pare-pareho silang magagaling. pls tapusin na po yung pagiging narrow minded. gawin naman ninyong meaningful yung mga nakapost dito. | |

Rachelle Ann Go has been chosen by an international recording group to record an album for the European / World market to be released mid next year.
Executives of Brown Moose Ltd./TriSoul Inc., a leading independent UK and U.S.-based company that specializes in recording, artist management, and live concert promotion in major cities of Europe, were in town last month to forge a deal with Viva Records for collaborations for the European market.
The first project of the UK-Philippines team-up is an album to be recorded by Rachelle Ann Go, winner of the Star in a Million contest in 1999. Rachelle Ann's current hit is "Bakit?," the theme song of the telenovela "Mirada de Mujer" which airs on ABS-CBN. The cut is from her album "I Care."
Rachelle has already recorded a test cut for the company group, which will be premiered in MIDEM 2007 in Cannes, France in January, the leading music festival for the music industry. Rachelle will start recording for the new album in January 2007. Charles Williams, a noted American producer and arranger, will be heading the project and producing the album.
Mike Curtis, the Managing Director of Brown Moose, Ltd. said he and his partners are very optimistic that Rachelle Ann Go has a very good chance of making it big in Europe. "Rachelle's voice is just enchanting, and she is a very beautiful girl with a fresh and clean image. We are committed to promoting her to the mainstream market, not just to the Filipino community."
Mike had asked Charles to suggest an up and coming American talent to break and promote in the European mainstream, but instead of suggesting an American talent, Charles let him hear the recordings of Rachelle Ann, for whose album, "I Care," he had produced two tracks.
"After that," Charles said, "he was a fan." Several serious meetings followed, and soon they made their way to the Philippines to talk to Viva's chief honchos, Vic del Rosario and son, Vincent del Rosario.
"I think this break is timely and well-deserved." Vincent del Rosario said. "Aside from her God-given beautiful voice, Rachelle also works hard and is a good daughter." Vincent added. "We really believe in Rachelle, not just as a singer, but as an all-around entertainer. And she's definitely among what we would want the rest of the world to see as a model Filipina."
Del Rosario said that it will be a first for a locally-based Filipina singer to be promoted in the international mainstream. "We're confident she will go far," Del Rosario said.

Famed international producer affirms Sarah Geronimo is future of OPM

Famed International producer Christian de Walden says that though other Filipino female artists are good, SARAH GERONIMO is "the future of OPM."
The personality of her voice is phenomenally distinct. Many have great voices but they tend to imitate foreign divas like Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston. Sarah's voice is Sarah Geronimo all the way. And although Sarah acknowledges that Regine Velasquez is her idol, people who really know music can tell Sarah's voice is her own. She definitely is the biggest talent I have come across with the last ten years, " says Christian during the album launch of Sarah's latest CD "Becoming," which he co-produced with Carlo Nasi.
Christian was particularly astounded by Sarah's ability to not only learn a song fast but style it almost worthy patent.
"When we gave her songs for this album, what she got was songwriter's demo. This means Sarah has no one to pattern her voice to and that she has to put her personality into each. And how she did, "says Christian.
This is most apparent in "Carry My Love," one of few ballads in "Becoming" that bear Sarah's belting style of singing. Recorded in L.A. a few months back, Christian recalls giving the study of "Carry" to Sarah mere minutes before she hit the studio.
"I forgot to give her a copy of the demo days earlier so she ended up studying the song in my hotel room right before our session. I thought we would end up doing many takes of the song to get it right but, no, she did "Carry" in just two, three takes,"says Christian.
The famed producer credited credited for tens of millions of albums sold by Latin artists in Europe and Latin America was impressed with Sarah's vocal performance in "Carry" that he had it listened to by his best friend, Humberto Gatica. Humberto has worked on several albums of Gloria Estefan and Celine Dion.
"After listening to it speechlessly, he turned to me and asked, Who is she?' And I told him, 'She's one of the superstars in the Philippines.' Humberto said, 'I will make sure Celine will hear this song once she finishes her stint in Vegas when it's time to do her next album. You're right, this Sarah is amazing!' says Christian.
A believer in Filipino talents since the 70's, Christian lowers his fee whenever he accedes to producing albums for Viva. His only condition is that the talent must be worth his time; one that, upon hearing, would blow him away.
"If I ask for my usual rate, then I'm afraid, Viva or any record label here could not afford my services. The rate i get for the albums I do for Viva is not enough to see me through in America. The only reason I could afford to do these is because i have big-budgeted projects abroad that sort of subsidize my projects here. I don't mind. I believe in Filipino talents especially Sarah,' says Christian.
The promotional single off "Becoming" is "I Still Believe In Loving You' which was co-written by Filipino Jimmy Borja (now based in the U.S.) with American lyricists Lori Barth and Raff Stenmmann. Many who know Sarah's past hits "How Could You Say You Love Me" and "Forever's Not Enough" note the the singer didn't hit the high notes as much in "Believe" and so concludes it's easy to sing.
To which Christian disagrees.
"‘I Still’ is equally challenging vocally and range-wise. One should take into consideration that Sarah starts off really low in ‘Believe’ and ends up doing falsetto at the end. It sounds easy but it’s really a tricky song to do which Sarah passed with flying colors," says Christian.
He adds: "Besides, not all songs demand that you hit the high notes all the time. We certainly were not thinking in that line when we were making ‘Becoming.’ What we went for were songs that could vie in the international market and those with universal appeal that grow on listeners."
To perfect "Becoming," Viva Records, upon advice of Christian, also flew in Italian mixing engineer Luca Vittori apart from assembling a cast of musicians and arrangers from the U.S., Europe and Manila.
"Luca is very successful in Europe and is one of the best when it comes to pitch correction. With the digital age upon us, listeners hear every detail in recording especially when using the headset. We wanted the cleanest sound of instruments and voice as possible," says Christian who also brought in his own equipment especially for "Becoming."
Sarah’s latest album is not only important to the singer but to Viva Records, too. Touted to be their first stab at conquering the international market, no expense was spared by the company in coming up with ‘Becoming’ even if it meant recording in three locations. These were at Flamingo Café Recording Studios in Los Angeles, Subside Studios in Fiuggi, Italy and Amerasian Studios in Manila. Additional engineering was done by George Landress, Fabio Angelini, Walter Clissen, Tony Peluso and David Bacon, hence, that ‘international sound.’
The investment promises signs of pay off. With the help of Christian, Viva is now near to closing deals for the release of the album in Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia.
"If someone like Jennifer Lopez could make it internationally, why can’t Sarah? Even just vocally, they are miles apart. If J.Lo can do A to B, Sarah can do A to G. Sarah just needs to keep on doing originals. And being an original," ends Christian.

i dont understand why we have to put down our Filipino talents. We are no better than our lame and insensitive politicians. No wonder why we can't even achieve development. We simply enjoy finding faults...as if we're impeccable. It saddens me to know how low we can go. If we dont like the singer or the artist, so be it. But that doesnt mean we have the right to malign her or call her names. Freedom of expression in the Philippines is highly abused. Freedom is never absolute. It has its limitations. I sat there mesmerized, almost speechless. My mouth was wide open. It was an awe inspiring moment. The first thing that came out of my mouth was, “Wow!” “How can anybody perform like that?” It was indeed a very powerful performance by anybody’s standards.
That was my first reaction after Sarah Geronimo finished her medley of Celine Dion songs during the Night of the Champions concert held at the Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver last Friday, April 14, 2006. Not only did Sarah sound like her world-famous Canadian idol, down to Dion’s bit of French accent, to me, she sounded even better. You may ask, how can an imitator do better than the original? You had to be there to see for yourself. Besides, Sarah already claims a number of her very own hits in the Philippines. The Celine Dion performance was just an icing on the cake, to demonstrate that, as young as she is, Sarah Geronimo could match what the best of the world could offer.
This piece is my first person account of my first exposure to this wonderful young lady. Unlike many of the other shows recently, we never heard of this concert, nor did many of out friends. I don’t think it was well advertised. That is probably one of the reasons for the less than ideal turn out. I would estimate that the audience was just over half the capacity, if not slightly more. We were invited by Mr. Vic Del Rosario, the kingpin, the super boss of Pinoy Cinema, to attend the concert which was produced by Adanac/Phil Promotions of Vancouver. My wife, Cora, and my business partners, Eric and Jojie Domagas and myself sat in the front row with Mr. Del Rosario or Boss Vic, as he is lovingly referred to. Mr. Del Rosario is the manager of Sarah Geronimo and the owner of the Viva Films, among the most famous movie producers in the Philippines. Boss Vic also holds the official title of Presidential Consultant on the Entertainment Industry of the Office of the President of the Philippines. My partner, Jojie, and I are co-producers of “Pinoy Cinema”, a two-hour program featuring tagalong movies from Viva Films on the Shaw Multicultural Channel in Vancouver. We are Mr. Del Rosario’s partners here in Canada with regards to the showing of his movies on Canadian television.
Earlier in the day, we had lunch and went sightseeing to show Mr. Del Rosario the beautiful sight of Vancouver. It was the first time that Mr. Del Rosario has ever been to our great city. During the time that we were together, we talked about Canadian life and nothing about Sarah or the concert that was happening that evening.
So when the concert began, it was a very pleasant surprise, a reminder that the Philippines still harbours some of the finest talents the musical industry has to offer. Having lived in Canada almost all my life since 1967 has detached me from the Manila entertainment scene so much that I can barely recognize the current showbiz personalities there today. So I didn’t know what to expect. To me, Sarah Geronimo was just another name, an upcoming star, another kid among the many. To me, she was just one of the four featured performers that night. So when the four opened their show with Queen’s famous, “We are the Champions”, an anthem to almost all sports fans around the world and heard their power rendition, I knew I was in for some very entertaining evening.
Although the three other performers were all champions in their own rights, Raymond Manalo and Mark Bautista equally having powerful voices with great tonal range, and the upbeat Rachelle Ann Go in her eye-catching outfits, Sarah, inspite of these outstanding talents surrounding her, stood out. Her youthful looks, innocence and angelic features disguised the dynamic in her. Her voice’s seemingly endless range had me on the edge of my seat, anticipating her voice to break at any moment, or that she would run out of breath during those difficult numbers. But she managed with apparent ease. While she sang, the audience paid full attention feeling the emotions conveyed by her songs. Being mesmerized by Sarah’s performance is an understatement. As a fan of music, especially live performances and having been a musician myself playing as a member of a rock band during my young days in Toronto and having even backed up those Philippine artists coming to that city in the 70’s and 80’s, I could appreciate a great performer when I see one. I am also a follower of the famous American Idol show and adore their champions. In my assessment, after having experienced her presence on that stage, I can truly say that you can put Sarah Geronimo among the best of the best and she would still outperform them all. This is one very elegant, super performing young lady; a true champion. There are just not enough words to describe her.
As Sarah performed, Mr. Del Rosario narrated to me her background. Although her musical skills are more than enough to impress, knowing about her past, her climb to the top, how she, at age of 9 was already touring the country to earn a living as a performer, made her more an inspiration and a subject of admiration. I am glad Mr. Del Rosario has adopted Sarah among the talents he is personally managing. At this tender age of 17, Sarah will definitely have a long successful career ahead of her. She deserves every inch of the way to the top.
As musically matured as she is, Sarah Geronimo is still a young precious kid who will continue to serve as a model and an inspiration to countless hopeful youths for many years to come. To her country men, she is a national treasure that must me protected. After witnessing a class act that she is, Sarah has made me proud to call myself a Filipino. Yet, as high as she gotten at her age, Filipinos should not be satisfied where she is now; the world ought to discover her. As her performance in Vancouver has demonstrated, the sky would be the limit to her success. She is capable of being at the top of the music world just like her idol, Celine Dion. The world deserves to be entertained by her. At her young age, there is still plenty of time for that.
I congratulate and thank the Adanac/Phil Promotions for putting together a wonderful, memorable and enjoyable show.

hey just want to post some of my opinions.
Undoubtedly, rachel has a higher vocal range than sarah. It's obvious dahil naririnig naman talaga natin e. However, some points on shin's belting strategy, most of the time she screams e or she tries to come up with an own rendition of a sing that is higher or twisted with a higher fret tan the original. I see the point that she wants to be original but the thing is, singing is not just about high notes e. Another thing, the vocal range of shin could not be specified as a true four octave range. Have you already listened to her scaling her voice range like mariah? Definitely not. Those ranges are just assumptions based on the actual frequencies that a singer could emit in one blow, meaning you sung in this octave and then you jump instantaneously into another octave. But i really admire her for singing in such register ha. Another thing, shin oftenly sings with vague enunciation of lyrics. But overall, she's really good.
As for sarah, sarah's mindset is still of a mere teen which i believe she should start moving on from. Kasi nga she tends to mimic the voice of the original singer which amazingly she does. Anyways, what she should work out is to build up her own simging style. Sarah is a coloratura i believe if you could hear her singing operatic pieces. I heard her once in asap and i was awestruck. What i really admire from her is her ability to well-enunciate lyrics. However, there are high notes for sarah that i think is not suitable for her voice. Pero she surprised me in one performance, that is when she sang the bridge part in one moment in time in full voice and in so much power na kala ko di niya kakayanin.
Anyways, shin and sarah are friends. Both are good singers. What we should actually do is to support them and try to help in improving their careers and singing styles instead of us wrangling about who is better. Magkapamilya sila, magkasama sa viva. We know that there's competition pero sana healthy yung competition.

this site should have featured KYLA, the Philippine's R&B, who has a style unique on her own, a style of her. Sarah's voice is no match if you talk about high notes! Kyla can very well outshone Sarah as proven in Regine's "Reigning Still" concert in a back-to-back-to-back showdown with Sheryn Regis (who sounded better than Sarah).
When Sarah shift tones, she had one annoying habit. The mic pick up what we call "singhal". Sarah real vocal power ONSTAGE AND LIVE is not impressive compared with her recordings!
