SITI NURHALIZA - PRINCESS VOICE OF ASIA (MALAYSIA)

Siti Nurhaliza binti Tarudin (born 11 January 1979) is a Malay pop artist. She is regarded by some as one of the most successful Malay singers of the past decade, and an influential public figure.

Origins

Siti Nurhaliza was born in Berek Polis Kg. Awah, Temerloh, Pahang, Malaysia, to Tarudin bin Ismail, a policeman, and Siti Salmah Bachik, a housewife. She had eight siblings, one of whom died after she was born. At first, Siti was labeled a tomboy because of her active attitude and her tendency toward boyish appearance. As she began to attend the Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Clifford, she took on a more feminine appearance, and her mother's grooming shaped her into a well-behaved and elegant Malay girl.

Career

Siti Nurhaliza's family performed at many local ceremonies at their hometown, such as weddings and other such important events. At the age of twelve, Siti began to learn traditional songs from her mother, and thus went on to follow in her family's steps by singing at special occasions around her town.

Later, as she continued to work on her singing, she participated in many local singing competitions. At 16, she competed in the 1995 RTM Juara Bintang competition. While there, she met Adnan Abu Hassan, a locally-famous composer. He tutored her and helped her with her vocal performance. Thus, she won the contest. After that, she was granted a contract with Suria Records, where Adnan worked, and in 1996, she released her first album, Siti Nurhaliza. Making her first album was a challenge because she had to balance working on her album while preparing for and taking the SPM examination. Despite this, her first album was a great success, and this would pave the way for her future successful albums.

After her first album, Siti Nurhaliza became a well-known figure in Malay pop culture. She continued to have numerous hits, her songs spanning a broad range of genres, such as pop, R & B, and traditional Malay. Her voice and lyrics proved quite popular with teenagers throughout Malaysia. Thanks to this, she has dominated national award shows for years.

Recently, competing artists have arisen, such as Siti Sarah, who are challenging Siti's position at the top of the Malay pop industry. She has also been criticized by some as being somewhat old-fashioned, while others have been more progressive in following pop trends. However, despite her competition and criticism, Siti Nurhaliza is still one of the most popular and recognized Malay pop icons.

Siti held a successful solo concert at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London in April 2005, although the majority of the audience were Malaysians living in UK and Malaysians coming from Malaysia. During the press conference after a successful concert, Siti was given a title as [Celine Dion] of Asia among the foreigners media from UK and Canada.

Promotional work

Siti Nurhaliza's increasing popularity meant that many companies seeked her to perform for them. Therefore, Siti Nurhaliza has sung many theme songs for movies and theme songs, and has been the spokeswoman for many companies. She has also been featured in various print advertisements. For example, Maybelline enlisted Siti Nurhaliza as a spokeswoman for their cosmetics in Malaysia.

In my honest personal opinion, I think that Regine is a better performer and singer than Siti. I have compared performances from both artists, and Regine is undeniably better than Siti. You know Michel Legrand? oh he's just the one with Barbra Streisand composing and arranging songs for her. Michel Legrand said he used to have one favorite, that is Barbra, now he has two, being Regine the another. That's more than a compliment. Regine was asked to do album with Michel but due to conflicts with regine's other contract the project did not pursue. Again, being complimented by people-in-the-know like MIchel and Foreign Artists and composers, is more than enough to say that regine is good...and does not scream. She has just very powerful voice that sometimes mistaken as scream. Now to all Malaysians, has siti been complimented like regine has? not by malaysians but other famous music icons? i guess with siti's bad english, i can say nothing more.

Regine was really really amazing. I never thought her voice in cds is already the best i could hear. Her live renditions were really really breathtaking. I've seen her videos were good. Her video WE BELONG TOGETHER was not impressive though but i've seen her LIGHT OF A MILLION MORNINGS and SAY THAT YOU LOVE ME and GREATEST LOVE OF ALL and many more... she's amazing. I say in some points, she could be better than MARIAH. I've seen mariah several times perform live and she sometimes lypsynch. It's terrible. Regine for me is much much better than SITI. Siti has just a voice. Nothing more than that. and bad english too. I have listened to her cds and she's good but not as good as REGINE's cd. you should here regine's rendition of GO THE DISTANCE and I'll NEVER LOVE THIS WAY AGAIN (while sitting)

I don't know why...Seems like it's not good enough to captivate the audience's heart. Her voice is clear and powerful but it lacks soothing effect and artistic value, unlike Mariah's voice which is powerful but at the same time beautiful that your ear drum won't be damaged.

I think there's an eagle here visiting this website.... On a more serious note: CT is born with a beautiful vocal and that's why she became a singer. She hardly attended any vocal classes. Regine has trained hard to be a singer since childhood and that's why she can easily belt out high notes. For those who are good at English, they can be an English language prof intead. If you are good at English, you still can't be a good singer if your vocal is "hampeh". Cheers!

Le Grand knows Regine. Brian Mcknight knows Regine. Mark Feist produced Regine. Regine should have been in Coco Lee's place had regine accepted the offer from the company. Regine has toured in Europe, US, Canada, Mid East and more with all SRO concerts. She sings English Songs flawlessly with "e" for "e" and not "i" for "e". Got it? Perhaps SITI is already the best to you and the most awarded singer because she's already ur best. No one blames you but she's just another ordinary girl here. She's like the Sarah or Sheryn here. But, Siti, she has her own style..and i like her better than Regine. Becoz, Regine, her voice is truly superb and power. BUt when i compare her with Jaclyn Victor..i think they will be matched and equal. As a Malaysian, i observed almost very clear about Siti and Jaclyn. Both of them are my most favourite female artist. GUys, power, sweet and Lovely. I believe i will rather to choose SWEET and LOVELY voice, which belong to SITI NURHALIZA. REGINE already performed in one stage with Sarah, Kyla and Sheryn during Regine's "Reigning Still" concert in the Philippines- it was a standout. Rachelle is supposedly included but we don't know why she was not on the concert itself when publicity included her up until the event. REGINE already had a back-to-back concert with Jaya in 2001 called "Independent Women".
