Lani Misalucha, also known as Asia's Nightingale, is a ballad, jazz, pop, rock, r&b and classical singer, celebrity host from the Philippines.
Profile
She never planned to be a professional singer. She simply loves to sing, and boy, can she sing! With the voice of an angel cascading up and down the scales like a roller coaster, a full five octaves of heavenly music (including whistle register), full throated, full chested and fully seasoned, she can sing a song as few others can.
Born into a musical family, with parents who are operatic singers, Lani grew up immersed in song, with siblings similarly endowed with wonderful voices. Growing up and listening to the radio, she expanded her musical horizons to various genres and styles, and developed a dynamic versatility.
Lani can easily shift from ballad to pop rock, r&b and even jazz. She may even surprise you with a sudden burst of operatic aria in a seasoned soprano voice. Recording multiplex tapes of the songs of great singers, she can, with alacrity, imitate the voice and style of, among others, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and even Barbra Streisand.
Lani has been in and out of the music scene since the late 1980s-as a vocalist in various bands, as a soloist in the lounge and hotel circuits, as singer for commercial jingles and multiplex tapes. It is amazing to note that although she stopped singing professionally for periods of time, opportunities never cease to come knocking at her door. It seems that music is her destiny.
In 1996, she recorded an album with the carrier single, "Somebody Warm Like Me," which became an instant hit. Moving to Viva Records in 1999, she did the album "Tunay Na Mahal" with the carrier single of the same title and the hit song "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me". Playing the lead role in S.K. Productions mega-musical play "Rama at Sita", she received accolades for her singing and acting prowess.
She kick-started the year 2000 with a new album, entitled "All Heart"-- a collection of love songs led by it's carrier single "One More Time", by Dodjie Simon, the album turned Gold after one week of its released. The album also includes songs written by some of today's most acclaimed contemporary composers, like Vehnee Saturno, Jimmy Borja and Trina Belamide.
The year 2001 became a very blessed year for Lani. She became a semi-regular host in the Sunday noontime show SOP, along with other top artists, Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Janno Gibbs and Jaya. In September 2001, she had her first major concert at the Araneta Coliseum called, "Lani Misalucha, The Crossover Live Tour". It was a highly successful concert, the venue of which Lani filled to the rafters, earned her more praises from fans and critics alike.
In 2002, Lani continued to wow audiences with her breathtaking performances in her US Concert Tour and series of concerts at the Onstage in Greenbelt. Lani released her fourth studio album entitled, "Loving You" in June 2003 with the singles, "Tila" and "Malaya Ka Na". In November of that same year, she began hosting her own television show with actor and comedian Michael V., also known as his character Junie Lee, called "Celebrity Turns".
Lani is also the preferred choice of foreign artists who have come to Manila to perform. She was the special guest of music industry icons Kenny Loggins, Brian McKnight, Sergio Mendes & Stephen Bishop.
She continues to perform to SRO crowds wherever she goes, may it be hotels, schools and bigger venues, like the Main Theater Cultural Center of the Philippines and the PICC Plenary Hall. She has had successful concerts in Cebu, Bacolod, Baguio, Pampanga, Davao and everywhere else in the country.
Lani conquered the hearts of those in the United States, too, as she performed in Reno, San Diego, Washington, Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr. of San Francisco even made August 17 Lani Misalucha Day to give due recognition to her talent as an artist.
Lani has also performed in other countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and the Middle East and has sung for the King of Malaysia, the Sultan of Brunei, President S.R. Nathan of Singapore and Presidents Joseph Estrada and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Lani is the closest we have that can sing alongside Mariah Carey. She is successful in Vegas and she was the first local singer to have impressed the sports commentator in the Manny Pacquiao's fight sa taas ng rendition nya ng national anthem natin. Unlike Regine, Lani can mimic Regine and other reknowned international singers. Also, Lani can deliver classical operatic songs unlike Regine. Si Regine at extremely high notes, her voice becomes thinner and thinner unlike the Mariah's and Lani's who are able to maintain their full texture. Regine's voice becomes very thin at very high notes that it sounds so shrill parang sumisigaw na sya at hindi kumakanta. Yes, regine's voice quality is yucky. So has to belt belt belt to be interesting, which I agree she does well, but over a 2 hour concert? It's so tiring and boring, I cannot even finish 1/3 of her cd due to boredom. She's just lucky to have some charisma and that pearly white looking complexion that filipinos are conditioned to highly value or worship. in this industry its really not a battle whether who is great,it is a battle on how you put yourself commercially viable to your audience....in that case though your saying that regine has an irritating style of singing i guess she hasnt irritated that much as like some are saying because if she already does she won' stay long as 20 years and thats an inevitable fact......if your irritated by her thats your opinion but the majority still wins and the bottomline is though lani is a good singer her packaging still lacks to make her commercially viable unlike the regine who had balance the whole package(coz if not she would not last for 20yrs.).... | |

I personally don't agree with this debate! It's non sense at all! Kaya hindi umuunlad ang Pilipinas kasi tayo tayo nagsisiraan, sariling atin pinapabagsak. I strongly believe that filipino talents are wolrd class they're even better than some international artists. Lani has the voice. Regine only has the scream. I heard Regine sing never too far. Oh my gosh almost all her notes were ugly. She sounded like my Yaya. I even think my yaya is better. Lani never had flat notes. Lani's voice is very soothing. I personally think Lani is better than Whitney, Celine and Barbra Streisand. Going back to regine, honestly regine cant be consiedered one of the best singers. Because what matters is the quality of voice. Regine doesn't have quality at all. Although her belt out is quite impressive , It still sounds very irritating. whenever Regine sings in the radio my dad always lowens the volume. I have noticed one thing about Regine, whenever she sings with singers who are below her like Sarah, Rachelle or anyone else she doesn't do her best. She probably thinks she's better. But when she has a duet with Lani, she keeps on starring at lani. Everytime Lani hits nice notes she stares at her. And in their duets Regine sings seriously. regine is probably afraid of being out sung. Oh well i am confident that Lani is so much better. Hi Regine fans. I am a lani fan. I was really insulted by what that LAMBCHOP said! For your info Lani can hit higher notes than Regine!! Lani can do operatic arias unlike regine. The only thing Regine has that most people like is her high scream belt out!! That bitch can only scream to impress people. She doesn't have the quality unlike Lani has. Lani can mimic almost any singer. And regine cant. lani can whistle up to 3 octaves while regine's whistle sounds terrible and i think its flat. Lani has a very versatile style. And if you say Lani had flat notes Regine had hoarse notes!!! :Lani never had flat notes. Those notes, which you think was flat were just too stylish notes that's why it sounded quite out of tune. LANI IS SO MUCH BETTER!!! Regine has nothing against Lani except her belt out na very irritating to my ears. I was never impressed with that bitchy voice of Regine. She is a trying hard Mariah fan. Ya know, i like Regine...but i love Lani. But truth to tell, it's not fair if you compare them. Because they really have very different styles. Lani can mimick and Regine can't (no matter how hard she tries!!!). Lani can perform Nessun Dorma WAY BETTER than Regine can. Wait!!! Don't hate me yet. I like Regine's songs. In fact, before i started listening to Lani's newest CD, i was listening to Regine's songs. But i guess it's true what the other Lani fans has said. There comes a time na medyo nakakasawa yung boses ni Regine. I've only been listening to her songs for only 2 or 3 weeks. And have had quite enough. But i've been listening to Lani's CD for almost a month now, and hindi talaga ako nagsawa. Ewan. Something in her voice is very soothing. And i just saw her perform LIVE in Flamingo Las Vegas with the Society of Seven. She was really good. She really is the life of the party. I bought her CD and took a couple of pictures with her, and she signed my CD. We talked for a while, and she was really approachable, really very easy to talk to. I'm not surprised. She's very much of a family woman. I admire her so much, like i admire Regine. And again, like what others has said, let's just be proud of our kababayans and their talents. Why is it we happen to support the non-Filipino performers (ya know what i mean??? F4? Jerry? Vic? Vanness? Ken? and Barbie?) rather than supporting our own kababayans? Asian countrywise? Regine makes us Filipinos proud. But Internationally wise? Lani Misalucha makes us Filipinos proud. At least it makes ME proud.

Lani is capable of hitting high notes....Umm, yeah....Not just in the whistle, but in full voice, she's belted out to a F5..Regine sang up to a C6, a few notes away..Singing isn't all about screaming, don't get me wrong I love Regine, grew up with both her and Mariah, especially travelling back and forth. lani's voice is versatile and apparently cultured. she can copy other singers voice and style. But that is not enough to render a diva title to her. She should come up with her own style and use her own voice if only to make a mark in the industry, otherwise she would only be good in mimicry.
Her voice is not as hihg as regine when it comes to natural voice but she can well use her falsetto voice, better than regine does, i suppose, since the latter seldom uses her falsetto. She is more know for belting high notes using her natural voice.
The thing is, Lanie copies or mimics other singers, while regine is being mimicked or emulated by othber singers. THat sets the line that distinguishes the two singers...
In terms of power, Regine's vocals' more powerful although lani too has a powerful voice. Indeed, very versatile. Further, Lanui cannot belt notes consistently which Regine can belt out. Regine has already mastered the art of sustaining high notes; ntes which lani cannoit sustain much less reach using her natural voice. otherwise she would juist resort to using her falsetto... | |

Hello All, LANI IS THE BEST, don't compare it to Regine, Rachelle, not even to the famous int'l artist, I knew Regine since she was still in Bagong Campeon but I never impressed her voice, it's so common voice to hear, but Lani it's totally different, we are going to Vegas again on Dec. 28th we are all 12 people and anxious to watch it for the 5th times I spent $550 for the tickets pero we love to see it over and over di nakakasawa.. the best among the rest? that i doubt. Lani herself knows that. Lani in all her recordings failed to achieved a platinum status much less a gold record status in any of her albums. it is her one frustrations.
indeed as a concert performer, she is one of the best, but concerts's reach are limited to those who can afford them. the records' airplay on the otherhand reaches all walks of life and and a testament to any recording artist.
it's been over a year since she moved to Vegas. The hyped of going international. Had she landed a single recording? Nope.
